As a young missionary, a primary responsibility is to teach people the gospel of Jesus Christ. Meanwhile senior missionaries are more often assigned to serve the junior missionaries and support them in their role. That is certainly the case with Vivian and I, and we have shared here a lot about our duties and those of other seniors. We really love serving them!
However with some time and effort, and having become more proficient in our support roles, we are also creating more and more opportunities to teach directly.
New Testament Institute class (20 or so YSA weekly)
Preparing to Enter the Temple course (8 YSA bi-weekly)
Finding Strength in the Lord: Emotional Self Reliance (8 YSA in one weekly course, 14 missionaries in a separate weekly one)
Missionary Discussions (we get to join the young missionaries on average weekly)
We also presented in a Sunday School class recently on family history and have many informal and ad hoc chances to both teach and learn. Teaching is one of the best ways to learn and we are learning much through these opportunities.
Last month in training this year's new mission leaders, Elder Holland gave a powerful charge which we have put up on our walls and adopted as well in our service:
Make the conversion of the missionaries themselves among our top priorities
Teach with the intent of missionaries becoming lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ
Teach out of the scriptures, especially and specifically the Book of Mormon
Bear testimony regularly to missionaries
Pray in the presence of missionaries whenever we can
Think celestial of every missionary (no matter how challenging!)
Other fun highlights of our week
Calls with our family, both in groups and individually.
Continuing through our second round of Season 4 of The Chosen. We really love the show and are so glad it's finally streaming.
Hustling across Singapore to get and ship medication for missionaries.
Transfer day! Six of our missionaries are leaving us today, while six new ones arrive, including our first District Leader returning now as our Zone Leader and one missionary fresh from the MTC.
Photos:
1 - 4: From a Friday night walk at Keppel Bay. The monument in the first picture is a reproduction of a famous rock formation that existed for centuries at the entrance to the bay until the British blew it up to widen the entrance. We had a wonderful evening of walking by the water.
5. Sister Dim from Myanmar joined us for dinner last Sunday night - we had a really nice evening with her and the missionaries.
6. In our first four transfers in Singapore there were 11 baptisms, while in this last transfer there were 10. So many wonderful people are joining the church in our six great wards.
7-8. A combination birthday/farewell celebration. The birthday is Kumar one of our wonderful young adults. The farewell was for the missionaries leaving at the end of the transfer. (We just didn't know who yet!)
9. Upcoming YSA activity.
10. Meanwhile back home our stake created a Spanish speaking unit - it's exciting to see the growth of the church everywhere!
